Silverbeech Bed & Breakfast

I am really excited to be back into things. First feature of 2018 and first feature about accommodation in NZ!

'Silverbeech Bed and Breakfast offers you beautiful peaceful boutique style accommodation which is self contained. Light, bright and airy, yet a sense of luxury, every detail has been considered. From the luxurious bedding to the home baking. Your space is your own making it a lovely retreat for the busy couple.'

Let's chat with the hosts Kiri and David and explore Silverbeech, a stunning Bed & Breakfast, located just down the road from me on Langdales Road, West Melton.

Kiri & David, tell us a little bit about yourselves...

I am originally from Christchurch and David is from Glasgow. We moved back to Christchurch in 2012 after living in Australia for over five years.

We have always loved travelling and stayed in many Bed and Breakfasts over the years. We enjoyed the B&B’s so much that we decided we really wanted to set up our own.

We have aimed to bring all the best aspects of our B&B experiences to Silverbeech

Where are you based and when did you start your business?

After spending a good twelve months looking for a home to buy we fell upon a 10 acre lifestyle block in rural West Melton.

One of our first thoughts when we viewed the property was that it had B&B potential. There was a large shed on the property which lent itself beautifully to being partially converted. It took us a few years to get the conversion underway and we had our first guests in April 2017.

How did you name your business?

The name Silverbeech is a combination of the streets that we grew up in. Silver comes from Silverdale Place in Christchurch and Beech comes from Beech Rd in Glasgow. We both have awesome childhood memories of open and hospitable homes and want to bring some of that to our guests.

What is your favourite part of running a B&B?

Getting to meet so many different people! We are especially lucky to have a number of wedding venues close by and we attract a lot of bride and groom guests. It is great fun to be able to be a small part of such a happy occasion and we get a lot of pleasure out of finding the extra touches to go into the accommodation for the wedding night bride and groom.

What is one thing you do daily to make your business work?

We believe the best thing we can do to make our business work is make sure every guest leaves feeling as though they have had a memorable stay!

Where to from here with your business?

We are keen to attract more guests for week nights. As we are so close to Christchurch airport, we are looking at ways to capture both business travellers and tourists.

How can we book in to stay?
