Molly & Baxter's Place - Handmade Children's Decor, Clothing & Playtime Accessories

Paula and I first met online back in 2011 when she ran Slipstitch and I was very busy popping buttons with my hair accessory business MilliRose.

Paula has added more to her range and Slipstitch is now Molly & Baxter's Place.
I have always adored Paula's sewing and her absolute attention to detail shows in every piece she hand makes.

Enjoy your read and find some beautiful handmade products throughout the feature,

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I was born and bred on the West Coast then moved to Christchurch to go to University. After I completed my degree, I worked in the travel industry which was an amazing career and allowed me to see so many beautiful parts of the world. I have always had a love of creating and as a child was happiest when I was surrounded by cardboard, sellotape, glitter and glue!

Tell us a little bit about Molly & Baxter's Place

I started my original business ‘Slipstitch’ as a distraction from the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, making children’s clothing, toys and accessories. Eventually, my creativity evolved beyond fabric and sewing, so I changed my business name to encompass a wider range of medium.

How did you name Molly & Baxter’s Place?

When deciding on my initial business concept, I imagined welcoming customers to our home and leading them into a children’s bedroom filled with a treasure trove of my products. Baxter is actually the name of my eldest child’s first toy and then it was just a matter of choosing another name that worked and creating branding to match my concept.

What is your favourite part of running your own business?

I love the freedom and flexibility that it provides, allowing me to have the best of both worlds, by spending time with my children while pursuing my own dreams and creative goals.

What is one thing you do daily to make your business work?

Social media is something I do regularly so every Monday I sit down and plan content I want to include for the week ahead. I schedule my posts on Facebook and Instagram, so it’s all done automatically and I can spend more time creating and less time on the laptop!

Where to from here with your business?

I love that Molly and Baxter’s place is constantly evolving as I find different mediums to explore. I really enjoy coming up with new ideas and trying new techniques and even though a lot of trial and error is involved, it’s very satisfying when the finished product turns out as you’d hoped and people love it as much as you do.
